I am presenting this writing, partly for persons can arrive at a wrong impression of what I, and many others, write about living a contemplative life, oneness, in-Grace, Buddha Nature, the Now, ...
The image could be a being of stillness
means one shuns movement,
like dancing, or when walking, slowly always,
like engaged in walking meditation
where he or she goes.
The image could be a being of silence
means one avoids talking, shouting, laughing,
singing, music.
The image could be a being of calm
means this one does not get excited about anything,
somewhat like a robot who simply goes through the motions,
living in a state of arid detachment from feelings
and the celebrations and jubilations common to others.
To some extent, and differing from person to person,
this will be true, but only to an extent.
The contemplative will be most at-home
in stillness, silence, and calm,
for the essential nature of Presence is this.
And, also, in movement, sound, and excitation,
this is pervaded with the elemental qualities
of Presence.
Think of it this way, though it may sound contradictory:
the contemplative enjoys stillness-in-movement,
silence-in-sound, and calm-in-excitation.
Ironically, also, due not to losing the essential qualities,
these experiences are more alive for the contemplative,
not less alive.
